WE’LL PRODUCE THE NEXT EINSTEIN

Graduation for the 2018/19 cohorts was held on 29th June 2019 at AIMS Ghana’s new location; Summerhill Estate, Accra. 42 students from 16 African countries (14 females and 28 males) including 18 Mastercard Foundation scholars graduated into the Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences degree. 3 students were awarded with the FKA Allotey Meritorious Award of Excellence for their exemplary academic performance.

The Interim President of AIMS Ghana, Dr. Prince Koree Osei, highlighted on the importance of mathematics in understanding nature in his speech at the congregation. He said Africa need to develop a new understanding in science and technology for socio-economic transformation. AIMS Ghana would be starting the Machine Intelligence programmes in September 2019 to provide state-of-the-art training to meet Africa and the World’s demand as a complement to the MSc students.

He challenged the graduating students to use the knowledge gained at AIMS to think through the numerous problems in Africa and come out with solutions that will make Africa a wealth creating continent.

Speaking at the Ceremony, the Guest Speaker, Mr. Richard Okyere, Director at the Ghana Insurance College urged the graduands to put to good use the knowledge and skills learnt at AIMS. He said, “in advancing your career, do not expect things to be simple, because hard times may come and when such times come do your best to think outside the box- a secret to excellence and great achievement in life”. 

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Dr. Heather Cameron in her goodwill message to the graduands, encouraged all, especially females, to continue to serve as female STEM ambassadors in their respective locations.

The overall best student, Mr. Hezekiah Seun Adewinbi, recounting his experience and that of his colleagues, said that they were leaving AIMS as better people; not just because of the certificates, but they were instilled with vital principles such as discipline, hard work, integrity, time management, teamwork, leadership skills and perseverance.

He admonished his colleagues to never give-up on their dreams irrespective of obstacles they may encounter.

Present at the Ceremony were AMS Ghana Board of Trustees, led by the Board Chairman, Prof. Edward S. Ayensu, Deans and Heads of Partner Universities, members of the Diplomatic Corp, Invited Guests from Industry and Parastatal Institutions, Parents, Guardians and Staff of AIMS Ghana.
