Delegation from The Gambia Pays a Courtesy Call on AIMS Ghana

AIMS Ghana received a delegation from the Meteorological Agency of the Gambia on the 26th of November, 2021. This visit was coordinated by Dr. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, the Resident AIMS-Canada Research Chair in Climate Change Science. Members of the team included Lamin Mai Touray – Director (Department of Water Resources – Republic of Gambia), Mutarr Jammeh – Programme Officer Governance, State Building, Agriculture and Climate Change (Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs), Tijani Bojang – Project Officer/ Operation (GCCA + Climate Resilient Coastal & Marine Zone Project) and Peter Gibba (Chief Meteorologist – Department of Water Resources). The Gambian delegation met with Dr. Prince K. Osei – Centre President and Ms. Adelaide Asante, COO of AIMS Ghana to discuss opportunities for collaboration.  

Key outcomes of the meeting included prospects of hosting and training Gambian officials from the Meteorological Agency on Climate Science. Discussions were also to be initiated on the opportunities available, with regards to training more talented students at both Master’s and Ph.D. levels in Climate Science related courses. These training sessions will be through strategic partnerships with the Gambian Ministry of Education.
