Congratulations to Dr. Angela Tabiri – The World’s Most Interesting Mathematician 2024

Over the past month, 16 fascinating mathematicians competed in The Big Internet Math-Off, hosted by The Aperiodical, culminating in a final showdown between Matt Enlow and Angela Tabiri. We are thrilled to announce that Angela Tabiri has emerged victorious, earning the title of The World’s Most Interesting Mathematician (2024).

Angela’s winning pitch captivated audiences with a hands-on activity demonstrating the constancy of Pi (π) and an exploration into the world of prime numbers and the Fibonacci sequence. Her engaging presentation highlighted the beauty and importance of mathematics, showcasing how the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter is always π, and revealing intriguing patterns within prime numbers and the golden ratio in nature. Watch her pitch HERE!

An AIMS Ghana alumna ’14, and currently a Post Doctoral Researcher and Academic Manager at our Centre, Dr. Tabiri is not only a brilliant mathematician but also a dedicated advocate for STEM education through her nonprofit, Femafricmaths, which promotes female African mathematicians and diverse careers in mathematics.

Angela’s victory is a testament to her passion for making mathematics accessible and exciting.
