Mastercard Foundation Ghana – Country Director, Pays Courtesy Visit to AIMS Ghana

The Mastercard Foundation Country Director for Ghana, Madam Rica Rwigamba, accompanied by her team, paid a courtesy visit to the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), Ghana on Thursday, 29th October, 2024. The essence of this meeting, was to deepen the existing partnership between the Mastercard Foundation and AIMS Ghana.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program which is in partnership with AIMS, is a fully funded program that seeks to enable qualified, yet economically disadvantaged African students to complete a master’s-level education in mathematical sciences based in any of the six AIMS Centres of Excellence located across Africa.  Madam Rwigamba’s visit was to discuss the impact of the Mastercard Foundation Program and to deliberate on how AIMS Ghana and the Mastercard Foundation can work more collaboratively in furtherance of the goals of the Scholar’s Program.

Madam Rwigamba and her team were welcomed to the AIMS campus in Accra, by the Centre President, Dr. Prince K. Osei, Mr. Joseph Nditiru, Director- Programs Delivery and Reporting at the AIMS Research and Innovation Centre – Rwanda, Mrs. Beauty Beatrice Kwawu – Program Manager, and the entire management team. In his welcome address, Dr. Osei expressed AIMS’ gratitude to Mastercard Foundation for their immense support and partnership for the delivery of the Scholars Program at AIMS. He reiterated AIMS commitment to providing relevant and excellent education for the Scholars in order to empower them to become responsible leaders who will use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of the African continent.

In her address, Madam Rwigamba, expressed admiration for the impactful work AIMS is doing in Ghana. She highlighted the Mastercard Foundation’s vision of a future where all young Africans can learn and access dignified and fulfilling work. She also applauded AIMS Ghana for standing out as a Centre of Excellence for innovative education in STEM for young people; and affirmed the Mastercard Foundation’s support for AIMS, in efforts to drive inclusive growth while creating opportunities in STEM for young people, especially women in Africa.

Madam Rwigamba and her team from Mastercard Foundation spent some time at AIMS Ghana interacting with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars. The Scholars shared their aspirations and experiences, underscoring the positive impact of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. AIMS and the Mastercard Foundation are leading the way in shaping Africa’s future by investing in the continent’s young minds.
