AIMS Ghana recently hosted a group of senior high school students from Legacy Girls College as part of an educational tour designed to inspire young women to pursue studies and careers in mathematics and related fields.
Held on Thursday, 30 April 2026, the visit provided students with an engaging introduction to the world of mathematical sciences. The program began with a welcome session by Rhoda Nana Safowa, External Relations Manager as well as a presentation on AIMS Ghana, delivered John Appiah, Senior Communications Manager. They introduced the students to the institute’s mission and its contribution to advancing STEM education across Africa.

The session was followed by an interactive discourse on academic programmes leading to a question-and-answer segment led by Joel Bamfo-Appiah, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, where students explored academic pathways and career opportunities in mathematics.
Students were further exposed to cutting-edge research through a presentation by Nick Monk, Research Chair, Patience Aba Sackey – PhD student and some other researchers. Their session highlighted real-world applications of mathematics and demonstrated the relevance of scientific research in solving global challenges.
A key highlight of the visit was a mentoring session with current master’s students at AIMS Ghana, who shared their personal academic journeys and experiences, offering guidance and encouragement to the visiting students.
Through initiatives like this, AIMS Ghana continues to nurture the next generation of African scientists by creating opportunities for young students, especially girls, to engage with mathematics, explore career possibilities and envision a future in STEM.
