AIMS GMSP Alumna Maxima Danzi Pegyen Excels in Engineering, Leadership and Mentorship

Maxima Danzi Pegyen, an alumna of the AIMS Girls in Mathematical Sciences Program (GMSP), continues to set an inspiring example of academic excellence, leadership and community impact. Since her time in the GMSP, which was designed to mentor and prepare young women for STEM careers through immersive training and guidance, Maxima has distinguished herself both inside and outside the classroom.

Originally from the Upper East Region and having served as the Head Girl during her secondary education at Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School, Takoradi, in the Western Region, Maxima gained national acclaim for her participation in the National Mathematics and Science Quiz (NSMQ), representing her school with distinction and showcasing her analytical ability on a national stage. She went on to pursue her undergraduate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she excelled academically, earned praise for her dedication and performance as well as graduated with First-Class honors. While at KNUST, Maxima was a part of the Women Empowering Nations Glow Global 2025, the Girls Leading our World Global Cohort and the Telecel Ghana 2025 Female Engineering Student Sponsorship Programme. She was also recognised as Outstanding Female in STEM, at the All Female Excellence Awards, KNUST, 2024 and Influential Student of the Year at the 2025 Women in Engineering (WinE) Excellence Award, highlighting her impact among her peers and celebrating her leadership within the engineering community.

Beyond her academic achievements, Maxima has been a speaker on various panels and forums, including the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2023, I.D.E.A.S Forum panel hosted by AIMS Ghana, where she shared her experience as a young woman in STEM and encouraging others to pursue similar paths. Her voice has resonated with audiences keen to amplify women’s participation in mathematical and engineering fields.

She co-founded Teen Tech Fest, an initiative that introduces teenagers to hands-on STEM experiences through robotics, programming, game-based learning and digital creativity, helping them build problem-solving skills, confidence and an interest in innovation. After graduating, she also launched the Start Right Girl! Mentorship Program, which supports female university freshmen by fostering confidence, belonging and strong networks to ease their transition into university life and promote long-term personal and professional growth.

Maxima’s trajectory from an AIMS GMSP beneficiary to an award-winning engineer and mentor, reflects the core mission of the AIMS GMSP; to cultivate confident, capable women who lead and inspire. Her ongoing work continues to uplift the next generation of female STEM leaders across Ghana and beyond.
