Build Tech, Create Impact, Shape the Future: InnovAIMS Pitch Lounge Empowers Young Innovators

The AIMS Ghana campus came alive on April 9, 2026, with creativity, collaboration and bold ambition as InnovAIMS hosted its highly anticipated Pitch Lounge. Designed as a dynamic platform to inspire technology-driven solutions to real societal challenges, the event brought together students, alumni, and emerging innovators committed to shaping a better future through innovation.

The event opened with a welcome address by Knowledge and Technology Transfer Scientist, Dr. Abdulmajid Osumanu, who emphasized the importance of innovation in driving sustainable development. This was followed by opening remarks from Senior Comms Manager, Mr. John Appiah, who highlighted AIMS Ghana’s commitment to nurturing talent and supporting impactful ideas.

The Pitch Lounge convened developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and early-stage innovators who worked in teams to conceptualize, prototype, and pitch ideas addressing pressing issues across key sectors, including education access, health access, financial inclusion, and smart cities. The energy throughout the day reflected a shared purpose; to harness technology for meaningful, scalable impact.

Participants benefited from hands-on innovation experience, mentorship from industry experts, and guidance from program leads within InnovAIMS. The event provided a supportive environment for refining ideas and translating them into practical solutions, culminating in pitches before a professional jury.

A wide range of innovative solutions emerged. Venaview Technologies introduced a near-infrared vein detection device tailored for African healthcare settings, while AgriHub proposed a platform to rebuild Ghana’s agricultural value chain. Environmental sustainability was tackled by Sortify, which presented a plastic-for-cash initiative to address waste management challenges.

Other standout ideas included Ubuntu, which seeks to bridge cultural gaps in English-dominated homes and schools, and the OpenLeaf Project, focused on equipping junior high school students with digital and entrepreneurial skills. In agriculture, Smart Agri-Net and AgroScan West Africa leveraged artificial intelligence to improve productivity and sustainability.

The winning team, Crop Guard AI/ML Disease Detection, impressed judges with its offline, instant, and affordable AI-powered solution for detecting crop diseases, offering smallholder farmers a practical tool to protect yields and livelihoods.

The success of the Pitch Lounge underscores AIMS Ghana’s commitment to fostering innovation ecosystems that empower young people to solve real-world problems and shape the future.
