Mastercard Foundation Scholars at AIMS Ghana led outreach initiatives as part of their transformative leadership development journey from the 17th – 21st of February 2026. The activities demonstrated their deep commitment to service, mentorship and community engagement beyond the classroom.
Designed and executed by the 2025/26 Cohort of Scholars themselves, under the direction of the Scholars Program Manager, Mrs. Beauty Beatrice Kwawu, the activities included school visits, youth mentoring sessions and a donation drive to support a local orphanage. Throughout the week, the Scholars embodied their vision of cultivating leaders who combine academic excellence with social responsibility.
During the 2-day school visit, the Scholars engaged students at the Martey Tsuru Junior High School (JHS) in teaching simpler methods to understanding Mathematics, interactive discussions about education and leadership, as well as sharing opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for the youth. Drawing from their own experiences, they shared practical advice on goal-setting, resilience and navigating academic pathways. The sessions were marked by lively exchanges, thoughtful questions, and moments of inspiration, as many students expressed renewed confidence in pursuing Mathematics and higher education.

The youth mentoring engagements further created safe and encouraging spaces for open dialogue. Scholars facilitated conversations around career aspirations, overcoming barriers and building self-belief. By sharing their personal journeys, they demonstrated that leadership is not defined solely by achievement, but also by the courage to persevere and uplift others.
The outreach activities concluded with a visit to a local orphanage, where the Scholars presented donated items and spent meaningful time interacting with the children. Beyond the donations, the visit fostered connection, empathy and shared joy reinforcing the value of compassionate leadership.

This impactful week reflected the core values of Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program: service, integrity and transformative leadership. By taking initiative and leading these activities, the Scholars demonstrated that true leadership is expressed through action and a sustained commitment to community.
Through mentorship, generosity and engagement, they left a lasting impression, proving that empowered young leaders can drive positive change and contribute to building stronger, more inclusive communities especially in Africa.
