A 2016 Descartes Medalist, Carly Ziniuk is a Toronto-based high school teacher specializing in Mathematics, Statistics, and Research. The recent recipient of the 2024 OAME/AOEM Award for Exceptional and Creative Teaching in Mathematics, she is a recognized leader in mathematics education. Carly has presented at HTTMC on the historical connections of curve stitching, linking modern Bézier curves with solar coronal loops (2024) and on Space for All: Inspiring Math Practice (2025). As a NASA Space Apps Navigator and local mentor, Carly has judged the Universal Events and is a featured expert on the NASA Space Apps YouTube channel. Her ability to translate complex concepts was featured in Forbes regarding the total solar eclipse. The “In the Middle” columnist for the OAME Gazette, she holds Science Communication certifications from RCIScience and Seneca Polytechnic. Her work consistently demonstrates how real-life data can engage students in solving complex, world-relevant problems.
