Judith Koeller is a graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Math Teaching Option and holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, where she specialized in cryptography. She has worked as a software developer for a mathematics software company and on automotive manufacturing projects.
She has been on faculty at the University of Waterloo since 2003 and teaches in the Master of Mathematics Teaching program. Judith conducts workshops in mathematics for high school students and teachers across Canada and internationally. She is a past Director of the Canadian Team Mathematics Contest (CTMC) through the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC), and is passionate about encouraging students to do mathematics collaboratively.
She is actively involved in numerous equity initiatives at the University of Waterloo and beyond, and has co-developed a course exploring the peace implications of mathematics and computer science.
Judith loves witnessing the “aha!” moments that both students and teachers experience when solving challenging math problems. She is particularly interested in showing how mathematics can make a meaningful difference in the world, especially in relation to social justice.
