AIMS Ghana Hosts IEPA

AIMS Ghana on the 8th of April 2021, hosted the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA), a fellow UNESCO Category II Centre of Excellence. As part of the program, the team from IEPA met with the AIMS Ghana management team to discuss prospective collaborations.

IEPA management present included; Dr. Michael Boakye -Yiadom, Director General, Dr. Paul Kwadwo Addo – Deputy Director-General (Administration & General Services), Dr. Alfred Ampah Mensah – Deputy Director-General (Academic Planning), Mme. Nana Afua Rockson, Head of Communications and Public Relations, and Dr. Hope Pius Nudzor – Senior Research Fellow.

The Centre President – (AIMS Ghana) Dr. Prince Koree Osei, highlighting its ecosystem, goals, centres, achievements, and research areas. He explained the AIMS vision, which is to lead the transformation of Africa through innovative scientific training, technical advances, and breakthrough discoveries.

Dr. Michael Boakye -Yiadom, made comments concerning IEPA’s recent achievement of the UNESCO Category II status and their aim to extend their activities beyond Ghana, into the West African Subregion. There were further discussions on IEPA’s establishment as a part of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), however the Institute functions with some autonomy, similar to a college. The Director made mention of their recent ventures to build bridges with various departments within UCC and others within Ghana’s Ministries in various partnerships. Outside the country, there have been interactions with some NGOs with whom they will also be partnering.

The meeting concluded on mutual interest areas of collaboration, especially with regard to working on an improvement in the teaching and delivery of STEM-related subjects.
