The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AIMS Ghana on the Implementation of the Climate Change and Atmospheric Physics Programme. AIMS Ghana Senior Management visited the UENR campus in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana on the 14th of June 2021 during which the agreement was sealed. The AIMS Ghana Centre President, Dr. Prince K. Osei. the Chief Operating Officer; Ms. Adelaide Asante and the AIMS Canada Research Chair in Climate Change Science, Dr. Nana Ama Browne – Klutse were among the Management team who met with the UENR Management.
As part of the agreement, there will be a joint research program with EORIC-UENR in areas of Climate change impact assessments and Atmospheric Disturbances. These studies would also cover their impact on space weather events and their effects on the atmosphere as well as technology, theoretical and numerical analysis of global/regional climate.
Due to past successes in implementing graduate programs, AIMS Ghana, in collaboration with UENR, will roll out a Master’s program in the coming academic year which will provide training in Climate Change and Atmospheric Physics (CCAP) to improve knowledge and understanding of Climate and Atmospheric Processes. The CCAP program will prepare young Africans for a research career in Climate Modeling and Atmospheric Physics.
