Gaining admission to the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), means that you are on a clear path to self-development in different spheres of your life. This all-encompassing experience is the testimony of many, if not all Alumni after passing through AIMS. Though the system presents a rigorous academic structure, because of how limited the timeframe is, the whole process remains invaluable.
At AIMS our values ensure that students can become RIPE – meaning that they would have a sense of Respect, Integrity, Pan-Africanism and Excellence during and even after graduating from the program.
AIMS discovers top African graduates and offers them world-class education opportunities in the Mathematical Sciences, enabling them to pursue careers in research, training, industry and governance. Students benefit from full scholarships which give them continuous access to computing, internet and electricity as well as close interaction with full-time tutors and visiting professors from across the world. World-leading scientists and educators remain a significant part of volunteers who continue to teach at AIMS. Their participation ensures an education of the highest international standard with an interdisciplinary approach.
The AIMS Model provides a unique learning opportunity to complete all the required courses within the Mathematical Sciences through well laid out blocks and phases. Endorsed by NEPAD, the African Union and TED as an idea big enough to change the world, this model has been refined and proven at five AIMS Centres of Excellence in South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, and Rwanda. With specific regard to AIMS Ghana’s one-year Structured Master’s degree, the award partnership is currently with the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
In a Pan-African set up, students from various backgrounds on the African continent converge at an AIMS Centre and over a period of time they evolve to become one people. While studying simultaneously together, students are able to learn about one another’s cultures as well as build tolerance and understanding amongst themselves. The goal is to shape them to be better individuals, easily adapting to any future settings they may find themselves in.
Additionally, through our various extracurricular activities lined up for the year such as the E-Week, Students Cook-out, Cultural Activities, Tours, the Leaver’s Week Hackathon as well as AIMS ESMT-Industry Immersion Program, students are able to embrace different skills in communication, teamwork. Project management, critical thinking among others to add to their academic and scientific knowledge.
This ensures the progressiveness of the Centre such that students can have an all-round/ wholistic experience, with improvement in every aspect of their lives.
