Quantum Technologies & Quantum for Good

Dr. Prince Osei, the Centre President of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Ghana is scheduled to speak at the 2024 Innovations Dialogue on “Quantum Technologies and Their Implications for International Peace and Security.” The high-profile event,  organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) in partnership with the  Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA) Foundation, will take place on November 22, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland.

This year’s conference theme aligns with the United Nations’ declaration of 2025 as the International  Year of Quantum Science and Technology, underscoring the pivotal role quantum advancements play  in technological innovation, sustainable development, and equitable access to education in this  emerging field. The Innovations Dialogue will feature five-panel discussions designed to address the  opportunities and challenges posed by quantum technologies in the context of international peace  and security.

Dr. Osei is also the Lead Scientist & Director for Quantum Leap Africa (QLA) which is an organization created by AIMS to catalyze top quality high impact research in data science, smart systems engineering and drive the future IT revolution through quantum information. He is particularly interested in the role of quantum groups in non-commutative geometry and topological quantum computing.

During the conference he will be contributing to Panel 4, focusing on “Access for All & Advancing Capacity Building,”  where he will share insights on fostering global equity in quantum science education and research. His  participation highlights the growing recognition of AIMS Ghana’s leadership in STEM education and its  commitment to building capacity across Africa in cutting-edge scientific disciplines.

Dr. Osei would also be speaking at the upcoming “Quantum for Good: Setting the Agenda for the International Year of Quantum” Conference, hosted by the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), ITU, and Quantum Delta NL in The Hague, Netherlands. This pivotal two-day event from November 20-21, 2024 will set the stage for the International Year of Quantum in 2025, a global initiative aimed at celebrating quantum science’s contributions to technological progress and its role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. With discussions building on insights from prior events, the conference seeks to foster collaboration, address digital divides, and explore how quantum technologies can drive transformative societal and global outcomes.

These engagements reaffirm Africa’s role in shaping global conversations on critical scientific advancements and their implications for societal progress. Dr. Osei will join a  distinguished group of  other global experts and officials to engage in collaborative discussions aimed at addressing  pressing global challenges. The conference promises to provide a platform for AIMS Ghana to showcase its contributions to building Africa’s quantum science capabilities and advancing  international peace and security.
