AIMS Ghana proudly celebrated its 13th Graduation Ceremony in Accra on June 28, 2025 marking yet another milestone in shaping Africa’s scientific future.
The ceremony recognized the achievements of 56 graduates from 17 African countries, including 28 Ghanaians and 18 women, many supported by the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
The event drew a distinguished audience of government officials, diplomats, academic partners from the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the University of Cape Coast, alongside faculty, alumni and families.
Delivering the keynote on behalf of Ghana’s Minister of Education, Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service, underscored the vital role of mathematical sciences in driving national development and strengthening Africa’s global competitiveness.
Special guests included Mdm. Rica Rwigamba, Country Director of the Mastercard Foundation; H.E. Amb. Daniel Krull, German Ambassador to Ghana; and Dr. Osman Tahidu Damba, Secretary General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO.
In his remarks, Dr. Prince Koree Osei, Centre President of AIMS Ghana, reaffirmed the institute’s mission to train Africa’s brightest minds while bridging education, research, and industry. He highlighted AIMS Ghana’s flagship programs the MSc in Mathematical Sciences, the Master of Mathematical Sciences for Teachers (MMST), and the Work Integrated Learning model as transformative vehicles for Africa’s talent pipeline.



Dr. Osei also announced the launch of InnovAIMS, a new incubator hub designed to accelerate African-led innovation in health, clean energy, and technology. He further applauded Mastercard Foundation Scholars for their leadership beyond the classroom, citing initiatives in school mathematics outreach, mentoring over 1,400 students, and sanitation campaigns in Accra communities.
Dr. Abdul Ghaniyyu Abubakari, AIMS alumnus and Guest Speaker, inspired the Class of 2025 with a message of resilience, research excellence, and social impact.



The ceremony also celebrated outstanding achievements: Egunjobi Tunde Fahd of Nigeria was named Valedictorian; Sarah Maëva Tolojanahary Ahmad of Madagascar received the prestigious Emmy Noether Award for Best Graduating Female Student; while several others were honoured with the F.K.A. Allotey Meritorious Awards.
With over 600 alumni in Ghana and 3,200 across the AIMS Network, AIMS Ghana continues to strengthen Africa’s position in the global scientific landscape. Closing the ceremony, Dr. Osei challenged graduates with a powerful reminder:
“You are not just graduates; you are Africa’s ambassadors of scientific excellence. Be daring, be innovative, and let your work speak volumes.”
